The sensational discovery was made by scientists from an international team of researchers led by paleontologist Kenneth Lekovary of American Drexel University (PA). They managed to find the remains of one of the largest on the planet of existing terrestrial dinosaurs!
Drednoutus shreni or fearless shreni (so named in honor of its scientists appeared in the early 19th century warships dreadnoughts) in length was 25 meters, height – about 10 meters and weighed 60 tons!
– This is even more than the weight of a Boeing 737! – Said the scientists, according to the magazine Scientific report.
For comparison, body mass lizards of the genus Brachiosaurus, which are also among the largest, was, according to the latest estimates, an average of 30 to 40 tons. Boeing weighs about 42 tons, and the weight is 130 tons of whale.
– Fearless shreni weighed as a dozen Africans elephants! – Continues to admire his discovery project manager Kenneth Lekovara. – What is striking is that the found fragments of the skeleton indicate that at the time when the 65-ton animal died, it is still not fully grown.
Scientists, as they themselves say, found an almost complete skeleton . At the site remained about 45 percent of all the bones of the animal. This means that the investigation will continue. They will learn how to eat animals, how to keep the temperature and, finally, why has died.
