Rostelecom denies blocking of foreign websites – Ghhauto: Russian top stories

14.05.2015 01:53

Members of Rostelecom complain about lack of connections with some foreign social networks and sites. Residents of the central and eastern regions of the Russian Federation could not get access to Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, and many other foreign sites.

Arbat City reported that the residents of the Primorsky Territory, Vladivostok, Buryatia, Ulan-Ude, Yakutsk, Irkutsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow region, Tomsk, Kaluga and Zelenograd had problems of access to foreign sites, starting from May 13.

Representatives of Rostelecom’s claim that they did not block access to foreign content. They recognize there is a problem, but at the moment it its causes are not known to them. Rostelecom tries to find the problem and inform its subscribers when it will be resolved.

Some suggest that the government is testing the Internet filter. Since many providers nationwide were categorically against the firewall, it is possible Rostelecom became a testing ground. However, this is just an assumption.

Similar signs have Chinese system of Internet content filtering “Golden Shield.” It blocks access to foreign sites up and running on the servers of Internet providers. It is strange that access to foreign websites only lost subscribers Rostelecom, is not it?
