Researchers from the UK have found that about one-third of animal mummies of ancient Egypt contain no animal remains inside, another third is only partially filled with organic materials – sticks and reeds. It is reported by BBC News. Only a third of found shapes is a real mummified animals. For their conclusions, scientists have, by scanning the inside of more than 800 animal mummies of ancient Egypt – cats, birds and crocodiles. According to experts, the reason that two-thirds of the mummies were not quite true, is that their makers were unable to create a mummy, was very popular in ancient Egypt. The researchers also noted that sellers mummies did not hide their composition and their customers know about what kind of mummy they acquire. In ancient Egypt (in the period from the fourth millennium BC to the seventh century AD) the cult of animals and body fragments of the ancient gods were animals. For example, Sebek – god of water and the flood of the Nile – depicted with the head of a crocodile, and frightened the forces of darkness.
