Scientists did not expect: the world about three trillion trees – Devyatka.RU

On Earth, there are about three trillion trees. This RIA Novosti reported, citing an article in the journal Nature.

The number of trees on the planet decided to count American scientists from Yale University. To do this, they used a supercomputer, which entered data calculations trees of more than 500 thousand different corners of the Earth, as well as satellite images of forests.

The experimental results significantly exceeded the preliminary estimates of researchers. In their rough calculations, it turns out that the world grows about 400 billion trees, however, it became clear that the final figure is much more – about three trillion.

The researchers then determined the country’s leaders in the number. The absolute primacy of this indicator holds Russia, where there are some 640 billion trees, or 20% of the world’s forest resources. In second place Canada, where trees almost 2 times less. Third place with the same period – about 300 billion trees – behind Brazil. The top ten also includes the United States, China, Congo, Indonesia, Australia, Bolivia, and Mexico.

scientists have found, and the country in which the tree is almost gone. Antiliderom rankings were Bahrain, which counted about three thousand trees. The group of treeless also includes Qatar, Monaco and Gibraltar.

In addition, the scientists were able to prove the process of reducing the forests on the planet. So, since the emergence of the first human civilizations, the number of trees was reduced by 46%. This year disappears from the surface of the planet some 15 billion trees.
