On the International Space Station (ISS) has developed an emergency situation – there was a short circuit in the power supply system. As a result, ISS currently receives only 10% of electricity generated by solar panels.

Short circuit happened in one of the systems of the American segment of the station. It is supposed failure of one of the eight units, switching power from the solar panels on the back-up power – batteries. In the current situation of the scientific station equipment is de-energized. Experts are trying to eliminate the exceptions and to restore full power supply station, but so far without success. It is likely that the astronauts living in the US segment, will have to make an unscheduled spacewalk to remove the cause of the short circuit.

Abnormal situations occurred on the ISS before. Since January 14, 2015, due to the failure of the on-board computer, the astronauts had received information about the leak of ammonia in the US segment. The astronauts were forced to a few hours to leave his segment and move to the Russian module.

Recall that at the present time on the ISS are six people: three Russians (Mikhail Kornienko Oleg Kononenko and Sergei Volkov), two American astronauts (Scott Kelly and Chell Lindgren), and Japanese astronaut Kimia Yui.

In the middle of December to the ISS will fly Yuri Malenchenko (Roscosmos), Timothy Kopra (NASA) and Timothy Peak (ESA).
