Hydrogen Hyundai Tucson set a record speed – CarTimes.Ru – Autonews Today

Vodorodomobil Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell set a speed record among serial crossovers on fuel cells, speeding up to 152.2 km / h at maximum speed declared by the manufacturer to 160 km / h. This achievement was recorded during a race in California.

In truth, this record can be called only conditionally, because competitors Tucson Fuel Cell (in Europe known as the ix35 Fuel Cell) simply does not. At present it is not only the only hydrogen SUV, but in principle, one of the first mass segment machines FCV (fuel cell vehicle). The model, built on the basis of the usual Tucson / ix35 previous generation, produced in 2013, but only recently started to fully sold, and before that was only available on lease (in the US and is now offered only for rent).

«Green” crossover is equipped with 100-kilowatt electric motor. Under the floor is a balloon with a capacity of 5.6 kg of hydrogen. One filling is enough for about 600 kilometers. Norwegian enthusiasts greener cars Marius Bornstein and Arnt Goran Hartwig last year were able to pass on the ix35 Fuel Cell record of 700 km. He also holds the record for the largest FCV mileage per day: moving between filling stations all on the same model with an average speed of just under 100 km / h, they were wrapped in 2383 km. In this way, one of the main advantages of FCV before the battery-electric vehicles: hydrogen refueling takes only 3-5 minutes.
