Martian glass may contain information about the next life on the Red Planet – BBC

Researchers claim that using satellite data they have discovered deposits of glass in Martian craters. According to scientists, the glass may contain traces of organic life, if it existed on the Red Planet. The work was published in the journal Geology .

Found on Mars glass belongs to a class impactites – rocks, formed as a result of shock blasting process, which can occur when a meteorite collision with the planet. The researchers found similar formations on Earth, such as in Argentina. Argentine glass contained a molecule of organic matter, and even the remains of microscopic plants that lived on the planet at the time of the formation of the glass.

The samples of Martian glass have been recorded in the area, which may become a place of landing on a planet mission “Mars 2020 “- operations NASA, the launch of which is planned for 2020. Scientists hope that if Mars once had life impaktitnye rocks can greatly help in finding its traces.
