Scientists: Dinosaurs could kill malaria – REGNUM

Washington, March 29, 2016, 12:41 – REGNUM American scientists from Oregon State University found that a disease like malaria already existed 100 million years ago and its first victims were the dinosaurs, according to American Entomologist magazine.

The ancient form of malaria could use a wide variety of insects vectors and caused a wider range of strains. Scientists are of the opinion that malaria could have a big impact on the development of evolutionary and natural determinism.

One of the authors of the published study, George Poinar, an entomologist at the University of Oregon, says that malaria existed more than a hundred million years ago and It could be one of the reasons for the extinction of dinosaurs.

This is based on the discovery of traces of the malaria pathogens in mosquitoes, frozen in amber 20 million years ago. Pathogens were no different from today’s. Scientists have concluded that malaria has evolved along with the insect vectors that have emerged during the time of dinosaurs.
