Six months ago, an experiment BICEP2 reported seeing the characteristics of the polarization of the cosmic background radiation, which could be caused by strong gravitational waves that have arisen in the early Universe at the stage of cosmic inflation. However, it was immediately expressed suspicion that BICEP2 underestimated the contribution from the much more prosaic source of the same polarization – thermal emission of interstellar dust in our galaxy. Appeared on the day the new data observatory Planck, unfortunately, confirm that the result BICEP2 can be fully attributed to the galactic dust.
