Next to Mars Comet passed Siding Spring (photos, video) – Details

In Sunday around Mars at a distance of 140,000 kilometers passed comet Siding Spring.

NASA was able to take a photo of Comet Siding Spring.

A heavenly body came from the Oort Cloud – a spherical region at the periphery of the solar system, serving as a source of long-period comets.

This is the first comet in this area that scientists can explore using the spacecraft.

“Meeting of Mars with a comet -” cosmic gift. “This will provide a lot of information about the comet and its impact on the atmosphere of Mars” – reported to NASA.

Astronomers believe that the comet came from the Oort Cloud – a spherical region at the periphery of the solar system, which is a source of long-period comets. This is the first celestial body arrived from there that experts can explore all the details.

Scientists believe that the results obtained on the comet data shed light on the origin of the solar system and its evolution. In particular, it is intended to clarify the size and composition of the nucleus of a celestial body, its composition of gas and dust shell – the coma and tail.

The path of the comet followed the rovers Curiosity and Opportunity, which are on an expedition to the Red Planet, as well as ground-based and space-based telescopes.
