States have worked for the ISS for at least another ten years - RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, January 9 – RIA Novosti. The White House approved the extension of U.S. participation in the International Space Station until 2024, according to the website of the U.S. space agency NASA.

“We are pleased to announce that the administration of (U.S. President Barack) Obama approved the extension of participation in the ISS at least until 2024,” – said in a statement.

NASA officials expressed hope that the U.S. ISS partners also will extend its participation in a project that will continue “revolutionary research conducted in this unique orbiting laboratory”.

International Space Station – the largest scientific and technical project of modernity. It involves 16 countries: U.S., Russia, Japan, Canada, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, France, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Brazil. Each of them makes a significant contribution to its realization, and extensive co-operation provides the reduction of time and costs.

ISS orbits the Earth, making 16 revolutions per day. ISS flight control is carried out from two centers: in the Russian and American suburban queen in Houston, Texas. Each Center are constantly working groups of specialists in another country. These groups are hedging their TsUPy in case of any failures in their work.

ISS is used for biomedical research, production of high-tech materials and biologics, to study the behavior of the human body in long-term spaceflight, microgravity research and astrophysics, the study of the atmosphere and the Earth’s surface in the interests of basic sciences and for practical purposes, development of the technology of construction of large structures in space and interplanetary flights. Who is working on the ISS

Currently, the ISS astronauts have watch Roscosmos Oleg Kotov, Sergey Ryazan and Mikhail Tyurin, NASA astronaut Michael Hopkins and Richard Mastracchio and astronaut Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) Koichi Wakata.

New Expedition (Tyurin, Mastracchio and Wakata) arrived at the ISS November 7, 2013 at the manned spacecraft “Soyuz TMA-11M.” This crew delivered to the station Olympic torch that carried November 9 EVA Kotov and Ryazan. Read more >>
