American scientists could not find in the oldest people on earth some special gene that is responsible for life expectancy. This is stated in the article, a group of specialists in the field of developmental biology, genetics and gerontology from several research centers in the US, published Wednesday in the scientific journal “SVOC ONE” (PLOS ONE).
They made the genomes of 16 women and one man at the age of 110 to 116 years, but have not seen in their genetic structure of some common signs explaining belonging to an elite “club sverhdolgozhiteley.” It consists of only 74 people worldwide.
“We were hoping to find a gene for longevity, but we were disappointed” – confessed to one of the authors of the study, a Stanford University professor Kim Stewart. He believes that it’s not some separate gene that by mutation slows the aging process of the human body. Scientists believe that the ability of some people to live to a ripe old age more than explained by the entire set of hereditary material.
The professor pointed out that in the study group sverhdolgozhiteley were completely different people. In addition to age united them, perhaps, is that all of them are US citizens. Fifteen people from this group were white, two others belonged to the African American and Hispanic. To date, all of them have already died.
None of them differed commitment to healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. Nobody followed kakim- something special habits, which might explain how they managed to live so long. Moreover, according to Kim, “about half of them were smokers.”
The scientist said that this was the first comprehensive study of genomes as large groups sverhdolgozhiteley. Previously to study the hereditary material take only one or two people at the age of 110 to 116 years.
