Italian Fabiola Dzhianotti appointed head of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). If the end of the year nomination officially approved, it will take up his duties by 2016. This is the first time the head of the largest physics laboratory CERN will be a woman.
The famous pianist and PhD will succeed Rolf Heuer.
In 2009, Fabiola Dzhianotti appointed head of one of the four experiments at the Large Hadron Collider – ATLAS . The experiment was conducted on the same detector for the study of proton-proton collisions .
Dzhianotti said CERN «center of scientific excellence and a source of pride and inspiration for Scientists around the world ».
