At Harvard, have created the world's smallest flying robot - RT on Russian

Scientists at Harvard University have created a robotic fly. His flight and dimensions are exactly mimic real insect, reports BBC.

group of researchers from the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Wyss Institute under the direction of Professor Kevin Ma carefully studied the flight of normal flies. With the help they have developed “smart” composite materials and piezoelectric materials, they created a robot.

Fly robot weighs 80 milligrams, can do 120 strokes a second, and the amplitude of the flapping of its wings – 120 degrees.

The robot

not own the batteries and control electronics. The current is supplied by the thinnest wires driving the piezoelectric elements that control the wings. Depending on the frequency of contractions of each wing creates lift, or changing its vector.

Scientists believe that this study will be interesting to intelligence agencies and defense structures, because the micro-fly can be the perfect spy, getting into any space, while remaining unnoticed.
