Earthquake in Nepal: among the missing – Russian journalist – BBC News

About 20 Russian tourists who were in Nepal during the devastating earthquake, has not yet made contact with their relatives. This was reported in the Russian Mountaineering Federation. Among the missing correspondent channel “Mir” Andrey Korygin.

According to recent reports, the earthquake claimed the lives of more than four thousand people, more than seven thousand were injured. Tens of thousands were left homeless and sleep in the open air. On Sunday in the country were recorded aftershocks, which led to additional damage. Because of the danger of new earthquakes physicians are forced to keep the wounded on the street.

The already disappointing statistics of victims of aggravated tremors caused avalanches on Mount Everest – the highest point in the world and the main tourist attractions of Nepal.

Under the avalanche killed dozens of climbers, including three Americans. About a thousand people are locked in a camp at an altitude of five kilometers. Their evacuation difficult due to bad weather conditions.

Among the missing are Russians – journalist of “The World” Karygin Andrew and his wife Julia. They still have not made contact. The last time Andrew get in touch with colleagues on April 24.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that the rainy season is approaching. This can make it difficult to rescue, and in addition affect the sanitary-epidemiological situation in the affected areas.
