Japan to send to the moon spacecraft from the lander – BFM.Ru

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, JAXA plans in fiscal year 2018 to send to the moon first robot spacecraft from the lander, said Tass.

Funding for the project will be allocated in 2016 fiscal year, when JAXA will bring together a commission of experts to develop a mission. As expected, the spacecraft SLIM (Smart Lander fo Investigating Moon) will be launched into space by a Japanese carrier rocket Epsilon («Epsilon”), the development of which was completed in 2013.

The objective of the mission will be to find promising areas on the moon, which may be the goal of the next manned missions to Earth’s satellite.

At the same time Japanese experts expect to use his experience of planting the device “Hayabusa” asteroid Itokawa and put their lunar module in a specific area of ​​the moon to within several hundred meters. Until now, such planting carried out with an accuracy of 1 km.

The study of the Moon already has a serious place in the space program of Japan. In 2007, JAXA has launched a satellite of the planet machine “Kaguya”, which for eight and a half months in lunar orbit.

During this time, the probe had to do a lot of high-quality images of the lunar surface, which were subsequently used by specialists Corporation Google to create its three-dimensional model, available on the internet.
