Now, Yuri Milner Launches New Breakthrough Listen, in which the scientists are going to make the most profound and complete review of broadcasts from representatives of extraterrestrial life. In particular, they will scan 1 million nearest stars to Earth – at the center of our galaxy, and 100 nearby galaxies. This scale studies 10 times more than any previous scientific work. In addition, scientists will be looking for a 5 times more different radio frequencies, and will do it 100 times faster than before.

 

For this purpose the scientists will use two large radio telescope, one in West Virginia, USA, and one in Australia. As a result, these two devices provide coverage of the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Thanks to new technologies, researchers will be able to process signals at frequencies of 1.5 billion at the same time.

 

“It’s like tuning the radio. But instead of listening to the broadcast of a radio station, we will hear 1.5 billion channels,” – explained the researchers. Before this, they can only scan for four frequency bands simultaneously. In addition, researchers will look for devices structures in space, which may indicate intelligent life.
