The European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) has chosen as the reference draft of a new Russian Super Collider length of about 100 km – three times more than the Large Hadron Collider, operating on the border of France and Switzerland. The project was developed in the GI Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics and will now develop.
Deputy Director of Institute of Nuclear Physics Eugene Levichev told “Interfax”: “This year is our version was adopted as the base, then this option will be developed.” It is expected that the conceptual design of the new collider will be prepared by 2018.
He said that as soon as the Large Hadron Collider was discovered Higgs boson, CERN in 2014 started a new project – the so-called circular collider of the future (FCC, Future Circular Colliders). Experts have suggested INP own draft of a new installation that their colleagues from CERN considered more promising than developed by them, and took as a basis.
The concept of the new collider involves the creation of a whole range of accelerator rings, which are designed to study the properties of the Higgs boson, and in the future, when it is fully operational – for experiments in the area of particle physics, which had previously been available to scientists due to insufficient capacity of existing plants.
The LHC is the largest currently a research facility in the creation of which was attended by some 100 specialists countries. The most notable achievement was the discovery of the LHC it the Higgs boson – absent for decades, the last link of the Standard Model, reminds TASS. This discovery brought a Belgian scientist François Englert and British professor Peter Higgs in 2013 Nobel Prize in physics.
