Japan will be the 113th element of the periodic table – Lenta.ru

The new 113th chemical element in the periodic table, Dmitry will be called Japan. For the name of the new element now fighting teams of scientists from Russia, the US and Japan. It is reported by news agency Sputnik.

During the opening of the authorship of the 113th chemical element fighting two teams of Russian-American and Japanese. The first synthesis of element declared in 2003 after experiments conducted at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna.

The second team representing scientists from the Japanese Institute of Natural Sciences, has published their data in 2004, 2005 and 2012. The decision to open and the name must take the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

The Joint Commission of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, leaning to the priority of Japanese scientists, since, in its view, the data synthesis of 2003, presented by the Russian-American team, is questionable.

Japanese scientists have received the 113th element, pushing the core of zinc and bismuth. The Russian-American team was the 113th element as a by-product of the reaction in the synthesis of element 115.

The final decision on opening the name of the new chemical element should be known in January 2016 after a meeting of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

In nature, as a rule, there are chemical elements with an atomic number (number of protons in the nucleus) is not greater than 92 (uranium). Elements with number of protons from 93 to 100 can be prepared in a reactor above 100 – Particle accelerators.
