In an attempt to determine whether there is life on Mars NASA has spent several months in search of methane in its atmosphere. Previous studies have given scientists some hope, but the latest figures do not look too optimistic.

rover «Curiosity» check for gas in the atmosphere at six different conditions, but have found no trace of his presence. Scientists estimate that the amount of methane on the planet (if any) does not exceed 1.3 parts per billion, which is six times less than they originally thought. High in the atmosphere of Mars can be 10-20 parts per billion of gas, that is 50 million times smaller than the Earth.

But Michael Meyer, NASA’s leading expert, said that although the probability of having a the planet’s atmosphere methane-microbes is very small, it does not mean the complete absence of microorganisms on Mars. According to the scientist in the world has a lot of bacteria that do not produce methane.

Meyer also added that they are 100% sure of the accuracy of the measurements and noticed that at the moment it is important to continue our study of the Martian surface.

known that methane is one of the most common hydrocarbon in the solar system. And its presence or absence can shed light on the history of the Red Planet.

Sushil Athreya of the University of Michigan explained that since methane has a very resistant structure, there is no way anyone now known as the gas could quickly evaporate from the atmosphere of Mars. It took a hundred years. Therefore it can be concluded that no biological, geological, or other organisms on the planet did not fall as a result of the fall of meteorites or planetary dust particles.
