Scientists from the collaboration LHCb (Large Hadron Collider beauty experiment) as a result of the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was first discovered pentaquark – particle consisting of four quarks and one antiquark. The results of their research will be published in the physics journal Physical Review Letters, and brief them on the CERN website reported.
The new particles have been discovered as a result of collisions of protons at energies up to eight teraelectronvolt. Pentaquark mass does not exceed 4.5 teraelectronvolt. Statistical significance was the discovery of nine sigma. Previously, scientists had known only hadrons (particles composed of quarks and participate in the strong interaction) of two quarks (mesons) and three (baryons, such as protons and neutrons).
Physicists believe they found pentaquark It consists of two up quarks, one lower, and the charmed quark and an antiquark. According to the theoretical model, pentaquark may be formed as a linked hadron of five quarks, and as a loosely knit (not in the sense of fundamental interactions) of baryon particle (two upper and one lower quarks) and mesons (the charmed quark and an antiquark). Physicists in the future are going to continue their studies to study the properties of new particles.
Models pentaquark
pentaquarks existence was theoretically predicted in 1997 by Russian physicists Dmitry Dyakonov, Maxim Polyakov and Victor Petrov from the St. Petersburg Institute of Nuclear Physics (was transferred from the jurisdiction of the Russian Academy of Sciences of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”). Earlier experiments these particles were not found.

LHCb – the smallest of the four main detectors at the Large Hadron Collider. It is designed to study the asymmetry of matter and antimatter in the interactions of b-quarks. Installing a Single Arm LHCb spectrometer capable of detecting particle tracks in the angular range from 15 to 300 mrad.
At CERN on the border of France and Switzerland is the LHC – the world’s largest accelerator installation. In 2012, experts of organizations reported the discovery of a particle with the properties of the Higgs boson. After conducting experiments collider was stopped Feb. 14, 2013.
After his two-year modernization of the researchers are going to concentrate on the search for dark matter particles, traces of supersymmetry and extra dimensions of space. The collision of particles at the highest energy (6.5 teraelectronvolt on the beam) occurred in June 2015.
