Boeing and SpaceX will build a new manned spacecraft for NASA – BBC News

In the United States again, a lot of talk about building a new spaceship to replace the “shuttles”. America, as stated by the United States space agency director Charles Bolden, would like to not depend on Russia for sending astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).

On Tuesday, September 16, it became known that Washington was determined in order which companies will design and build a ship. It is just about the two companies – Boeing and SpaceX. They were selected as a result of the competition, which was also attended by other companies, according to ITAR-TASS.

At present, international crews get to the space station only to Russian “Soyuz”. NASA pays Roskosmos for a place on board the ship about 70 million dollars. The Agency expects the new spacecraft will be able to make its first manned flight to the ISS in 2017.

The two companies will complete projects that do not work the first year. Boeing will continue its CST-100 project. SpaceH intends to build a manned capsule on the basis of its cargo spacecraft Dragon, who has made several missions to the ISS. Washington on the completion of plans to allocate $ 6.8 billion: 4.2 billion – of Boeing, and 2.6 billion – for SpaceH.

In case of success, they will receive a special certificate authorizing to make regular flights to the orbital complex. While the contract provides for success at least 6 flights. United States expects that the ISS will operate at least until 2024.
