China has launched its first ever space telescope . The task of the unit – find evidence of the existence of dark matter, reports «Xinhua» .

According to the agency, the launch was made launch vehicle “Long March 2-D» on Thursday morning Jiuquan spaceport in Gansu Province.

The telescope will be released on a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of about 500 km to oversee the direction of the electric charge and high-energy particles. It is noted that more than 100 scientists will study data sent back to Earth. It is expected that the first results will be presented during the second half of 2016.

Dark Matter – the invisible substance, the presence of which can be judged only by its gravitational influence, it does not interact with electromagnetic waves, i.e. does not emit, absorb or reflect any light. The share of the “ordinary” matter accounts for 4.9% of the mass of the universe, dark matter – 26.8%. Dark matter may consist of a heavy weakly interacting particles – “WIMPs» (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles – WIMP).
