Astronomers have found a new way to determine the effect of gravity on the surface of distant stars – News Samara

The Commonwealth of the Austrian and Canadian scientists reported that, thanks to no less precise and accurate measurement of the gravitational force of distant star systems will be thoroughly studied the rest of the planet, and besides finding them in the depths of space.

If we know the surface gravity stars, we can understand how much weight will be a person in this star. On the basis of a new method of professionals define a range of stars and whether there is in its orbit the planet with all the conditions for the emergence of life.

This new study headed by Thomas Kallinger of the University of Vienna, Austria, as part of the research group includes Professor, University of British Columbia, SC, Jamie Matthews, and in addition, astronomers from Germany, France and Australia.

The new method enables the scientists to measure the force of gravity for a very distant and faint stars with a fairly high degree of accuracy – about four percent.

«If you do not know anything about the star, you do not know anything about the world,” – said Jamie Matthews. “The size of the exoplanet depends on the size of its parent star.” If you found a planet in the star system, which, as you might think, is about the same size as the sun, but in reality is a giant, you can based on your calculations to get the wrong conclusion about finding planets the size of Earth.

The new technique based on the use of data can change the brightness of distant stars, recorded with the help of telescopes such as the Kepler, can tell you how huge and colorful, this star, and whether the next exoplanet suitable size with a temperature which is necessary for the existence of water in liquid form, but still possible and life.
