Telescope “Hubble” has given us a new picture of Mars. This picture was taken of the orbital observatory on May 12 this year, when the Red Planet was at a distance of more than 80 million kilometers from Earth, NASA says.
The bright polar caps and cloud of reddish scenery characterize Mars as a dynamic planet, where there are seasons.
The image is well known visible area of the planet.

For example, a large dark area on the right, partially concealed Martian clouds is Syrtis Major – dormant shield volcano of ancient origin. This is one of the first features of the Martian landscape, open another observer of the seventeenth century. The world-famous astronomer Christiaan Huygens made observations of Syrtis Major, to measure the speed of rotation of Mars (now known that the Martian day lasts about 24 hours 37 minutes).
To the south of the volcano presents a large oval area called Hellas Planitia a diameter of 1770 km. This impact crater, which was formed about 3.5 billion years ago as a result of the fall of a large asteroid.
The orange area in the center of the image – Arabian land, extending to 4.5 thousand kilometers in the northern part of Mars. Recently, in the area traces of ancient giant tsunami have been found.
The photo was taken in fact on the eve of opposition of Mars, which will take place on 22 May. On this day, the Earth will be located exactly on the straight line between Mars and the sun. Mars will be at a distance of more than 76 million kilometers from Earth. However, the closest it will be in relation to the earth May 30 – then the world will share a distance of over 75 million km
.
It is noted that during the confrontation Mars is especially beautiful, as observers on Earth will be able to see it in full light conditions.
