Physicists have found a new elementary particle – Tetraquarks – BBC

Scientists DZero collaboration discovered a new elementary particle – Tetraquarks. The work will be published in the journal Physical Review Letters, reports RNS .

The particle was discovered in experiments on colliding protons and antiprotons in the Tevatron particle accelerator. Elementary particle contains four quarks with different quantum flavors: the upper (u), the lower (d), strange (s) and lovely (b). While scientists can not describe the structure Tetraquarks because it can represent any two unrelated pairs of quarks or four quarks are closely linked with each other.

Initially, the researchers looked for the intermediate particles, which fall into Bs-meson pi-meson. After analyzing the data for the first nine years, the researchers found an excess of particles of mass 5568 MeV. According to them, scrutiny excluded the possibility of a background process
