Access to Wi-Fi in public areas will be carried out on the passport – Lenta.ru

Use public access points to the Internet via a wireless Wi-Fi connection in Russia will only be possible after the presentation of a passport to identify the user. This is stated in the government decree signed by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and published on the government website.

According to the decree №758 31 July 2014, an anonymous internet access in restaurants, subways, parks and other public areas is prohibited. Operator Wi-Fi point is required to provide access to the Internet only after user authentication.

«Identification by the operator through the establishment of a surname, name, patronymic (if any) the user confirms the identity document” – the document says .

User Information, including the name, first name, details of the identity document, as well as information on the amount and time of services the operator must keep at least six months.

Clients operator communications services contract will be required to provide the operator a list of persons who use the network resources and their passport details. List to be updated at least once a quarter.
