The results of two studies conducted by experts NASA, have shown that a long stay aboard the space station causes changes in the immune system of astronauts . Brief results of the study are published on the agency’s website.

According to data collected by scientists NASA, during space flight is partially suppressed the function of cells of the immune system. Other cells, on the contrary, enhance activity: immunity to as “confuses” the reaction. Inhibition of immune cells can weaken the body’s response to infection, and the excessive growth of dangerous allergic reactions have been reported about the appearance of some members of the crew. Conclusions of the scientists were based on measurements of the amount of cytokines – proteins involved in the immune system – in the blood of astronauts before, during and after the flight.

Scientists are concerned about the results. The plans of NASA – long-term manned missions to the Moon and Mars. Experts fear that in case of failure of the immune system of the crew regular flu can lead to disastrous consequences in space flight.
