The company “MaksimaTelekom”, which is the operator of Wi-Fi network in the capital’s subway, at the request of the Metro has developed software to identify users, the newspaper “Izvestia”, citing a source in the capital’s subway. Thus, the public network of underground will now meet the requirements of government regulations , according to which access to an open Wi-Fi networks in public places in Russia can no longer be carried out anonymously.
As the newspaper writes, the Moscow mayor’s office is waiting for clarification from the Ministry of Communications, whether or not these rules are applied in the underground and other public places in the capital. If the agency will confirm this, the metro passengers still do not need to enter passport details to gain access to the network – the program will recognize their gadgets with a unique identification number. This method of identification will allow law enforcement agencies to obtain personal data of the user of a particular device, if needed.
It is noted that the developed software automatically detects the international identification number of the mobile device user – IMEI (for some strange reason, “Izvestia” call this number EMEI . – Note. NEWSru.com ), so innovation does not affect the comfort of the passengers. Each user will have to confirm once that I agree with the rules of identification. In the future, the system will recognize already registered so gadgets and immediately connect them to the network.
But, first developed its conclusion on the identification system will have to give the Ministry of Communications. It should be noted that last week the agency has already taken explaining the decision, which lists three types of user authentication over public networks: on passport data, the phone number, or by using an account on a single portal of public services.
From the point of view of expert system developed by “MaksimaTelekom” can be quite effective. “Information about the IMEI-number and so is going to the subway. It is not tied to a person, it’s just a unique number of the equipment. Subsequently, at the request of law enforcement agencies IMEI can be correlated with SIM-card, but it should be remembered that the SIM-card can be purchased and without a passport “- said a leading analyst of Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin.
However, according to Murtazin, IMEI gives you the opportunity to understand what the device is, where it works, what SIM-card to put it all the time. “I think it is a very effective way to find the person it is used all over the world, and Russia is no exception. At the same time introduce some messages for the user to someone with something agree, do not need, because it is already works. Simply subway operator as a legally secured, “- said Murtazin.
In this case, the report does not explain how you will identify the owners of laptops and some tablets, which by definition do not have a IMEI.
