The Moscow Metro has developed a system to identify users Wi-Fi – Arguments and Facts

The company “MaksimaTelekom” commissioned by the State Unitary Enterprise “Moscow Metro” has developed a software system for identifying users of a wireless network in the capital’s subway, Izvestia reported.


 
 

The system registers the unique EMEI-room devices connected to Wi-Fi, which, if necessary, special services can set the name of the owner.


 
 

«Information about EMEI-rooms and so going to the subway. It is not tied to a person, it’s just a unique number of the equipment. Subsequently, at the request of law enforcement agencies EMEI can be correlated with SIM-card. EMEI gives you the opportunity to understand what the device is, where it works, what SIM-card to put it all the time. I think it is a very effective way to find the person it is used all over the world, and Russia is no exception, “- said a leading analyst of Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin.


 
 

The new rules that require user authentication in the “community access points”, adopted on 31 July this year. At the moment the Moscow mayor’s office awaiting clarification from the Ministry of Communications, whether innovation underground.


 
 

By the end of the Moscow Metro plans to equip all lines free access to the network.
