The probe Philae, carrying out the project Rosetta comet research at 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko, found that the water in the world did not appear due to the collision of comets with our planet. This conclusion is contained in an article published in the journal Science.
Chemical analysis of water with ice masses comet has shown that it has three times more deuterium, heavy hydrogen, differing thus in their chemical composition of the Earth’s . The authors conclude that, most likely, the water appeared on the earth due to collisions with asteroids.
Since August Philae probe in orbit of the comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko and 12 November made a successful landing.

Comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko was discovered in 1969. Comet belongs to the group of short-period: the period of revolution around the Sun – 6.6 years. The semimajor axis of the orbit – a little more than 3.5 astronomical units, weight – about 10 13 kilograms, the linear dimensions of the kernel – a few kilometers away.
Rosetta spacecraft together with the descent probe Philae started 2 March 2004 launch vehicle family of Ariane 5 from Kourou in French Guiana.
