Died astronaut and head of the project “Mars-500″ Boris Morukov – Moskovsky Komsomolets

Cosmonaut Boris Morukov, who led the project on ground simulation flight to Mars, died on the night of January 1, aged 64 years, according to the Thursday Institute of Biomedical Problems, Russian Academy of Sciences.

As noted by the Institute, was the author of four Morukov inventions, more than 100 scientific papers. He managed a number of unique experiments, included in the history of space biology and medicine. From 8 to 20 September 2000 made a flight on the shuttle “Atlantis” as part of the international crew.

The “Mars -500 “on the 520-day flight simulation six volunteers to the Red Planet on Earth kicked off June 3, 2010 and was successfully completed 4 November 2011.
