Russian scientists have grown crystals for flexible gadgets – commander

It comes from the fact that part of the absorbed energy is taken by so-called non- radiative relaxation channels.

Dmitry Parashchuk – the head of the research team said that is not going to make public the reasons for unexpectedly high quantum yield, but it is possible that with the last the invention will soon be able to get such lasers that can “light up” by simply connecting the tape to the radiation source. “This is a matter of our future studies,” – declared Prof. Parashchuk. This is a very promising field: if only because of the availability of private organic semiconductors, in principle, may even oust silicon with its electronic throne.

The luminosity was not the only advantage of “mortar” techniques. Currently organic semiconductor crystals obtained by crystallization from vapor. In the future, this may allow to create different bendable device.

What is important for the production technology, the creation of the crystals by the new method is much cheaper. The new technology is able to turn fantasy into reality: with crystals can be electrically pumped lasers. – We hold the hope that with the help of organic crystals, we can bring this goal.

«We have found reasons for such a high quantum yield, but are not yet ready to publish them. This is a matter of our future studies, “- said one of the researchers.

The researchers also point out that the crystals obtained in the long term can be used in svetotranzistorah and organic optoelectronics, but at the moment it’s just a guess. The researchers also did not rule out the possibility of establishing on the basis of the obtained crystals of organic semiconductor lasers with electrical pumping.

The physicist points out that the applicability of the crystals in svetotranzistorah, and hence in organic optoelectronics, – it is only an assumption, whose validity still need to prove. However, if the crystals will be able to put into practice, they will make the production of flexible and transparent electronic devices much cheaper. The same can be said about the availability of this laser-based electrically pumped, that is laser controlled by an electric current. “Get these lasers that can” light “, a film by simply connecting to the source, people dream for a long time, but as yet they have not received – said Parashchuk. – We hope that with the help of organic crystals, we can bring this goal. The combination of good conductivity and high efficiency of light emission allows us to hope that it is on such crystals will be made the first electrically pumped laser ».

Earlier, the scientists also succeeded in growing organic crystals at the liquid-air without the use of the substrate. This was achieved due to the force of surface tension. The grown crystals are not inferior to the electrical characteristics of the crystal obtained by crystallization from the vapor phase.
