The American scientists from the University of Texas in Houston, Rice invented superalloy, titanium is superior in strength. The new alloy is called “beta titanium-3-gold”, because its composition is titanium and gold (in a ratio of 3 to 1), which allows it not only strength but also biocompatibility exceed most durable metal in nature, once considered a titan, says “World 24″.
The researchers explained that the super alloy of gold and titanium was invented for medical purposes, namely for the manufacture of prostheses and implants. They became established in the form of four times stronger and harder than most steels and 3 times stronger than pure titanium. This strength “beta titanium-3-gold” is caused by the atomic structure of the alloy – its atoms are tightly packed for a cubic crystal lattice, making this metal by far the most heavy-duty all over the world.
Experts reminded that modern titanium implants have a lifespan of no more than 10 years, after which need to be replaced due to wear. Experts believe that the superalloy created by them will create a medical and sports equipment, which will be able to serve the people at least half a century.
