Global sales of “smart” hours were reduced by one-third – Lenta.ru

The sales of “smart” watches (SmartWatch) in the second quarter of 2016 decreased by 32 percent to 3.5 million units. This is stated in the research company International Data Corporation (IDC).

The reason is called a sharp decline in sales of Apple Watch. In the second quarter of 2016 Apple shipped 1.6 million hours, while a year earlier – 3.6 devices. The drop was 55 per cent, says the report.

This does not prevent Apple to hold the first position by number of sold “smart” hours. Second-ranked Samsung Corporation has implemented in the second quarter of 600 thousand of such gadgets

Its competitors – Samsung, Lenovo, LG and Garmin – increased their share from seven to 16 percent, with three to nine percent, from four to eight per cent, and from two to four per cent, respectively. At the same time Apple’s share for the year fell from 72 percent to 47 percent.

It is also noted in the study that the development of the market of “smart” devices hampered by the lack of traditional brands from the leading watch manufacturers.
