Moscow. on 18 August. INTERFAX.RU – Aircraft Airlander 10, which is a hybrid of airplane and airship length of 92 meters, made its first flight

Airlander 10 is the world’s largest aircraft, it is 15 meters longer than the size of the biggest passenger liners. and 8 meters longer than the world’s largest aircraft – the AN-224 “Mriya”. The weight of the aircraft is 20 tons. Its developers claim that it can rise to a height of 6 km.

The ship rose into the air from the airfield of Cardington in the English county of Bedfordshire, reports BBC News. The first flight was scheduled for August 14, but did not take place then for technical reasons.

Airlander project was originally developed for the US Army as a reconnaissance aircraft, but was frozen in 2012 due to a reduction in defense spending.

In the spring of 2015 the project became interested in the company Hybrid Air Vehicles, which has decided to use the device for transportation of passengers and cargo. She spent 25 million pounds for the construction of a hybrid and has already received all the necessary licenses for the test flights from the European Union regulators and the UK.

The vessel was renamed “Martha Gwyn” in honor of Hybrid Air owner’s wife.

The aircraft, received for his unusual appearance the nickname “flying ass”, is capable of accommodating up to 48 people, carrying loads up to 10 tons and land on water. It can reach speeds up to 46 miles per hour (74 km / h), while it will be controlled remotely. “Marta Gwyn” can stay aloft for up to five days because of 1 million cubic feet of helium (28.3 thousand cubic meters.)

The Hybrid Air Vehicles say Airlander 10 -. Multi-purpose vehicles. It can be used for reconnaissance, communications, delivery of humanitarian assistance, as well as for passenger traffic.
