 The first time in 78 years, the Fields Medal, which is considered the most prestigious award in mathematics, received a woman. This is reported by BBC News.


 


 37-year-old Mariam Mirzakhanov, a mathematician from Iran, since 2008 he has taught at Stanford University in the United States. Mirzakhanov noted for his “outstanding contribution to the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and their moduli space».


 


 Miriam hopes that her achievement will inspire young women scientists, which in the future could receive the same rewards.


 


 Fields Medal is awarded to young scientists under the age of 40 years. It is awarded every four years. Reward is 15 thousand Canadian dollars.
