The first thousand humanoid robots Pepper sold per minute – RBC

The first batch of 1,000 humanoid robots Pepper, admitted to the free market, was sold for one minute, it follows from a report published on the website of SoftBank Robotics Corp. The cost of such a robot is about $ 1.8 thousand.

Robot Pepper, developed with Aldebaran Robotics SAS, is able to speak, understand and respond to human emotions on his mood and touch to perform simple errands, say its developers.

«This robot can be in different states, depending on the circumstances and the expression of the human face,” – said Softbank president Masayoshi Son at a press conference that preceded the beginning of sales. According to the company-developer, android can encourage a person to behave actively, and sometimes even “feel lonely».

The company began taking pre-orders for humanoid androids on Saturday at 10:00 local time (04: 00 MSK). It is expected that the first thousand customers who had pre-order online will receive their robots in July. Then resume taking orders.
