Researchers from Imperial College London and the University of Glasgow conducted an experiment, during which asked 20 participants to drink cocktails, which contained any ingredient called inulin-propionate ester or the kind of inulin fibers. According to previous studies, the bacteria in the gut helps release a component such as propionate, during digestion inulin fiber. Thus, a signal is sent to the brain to reduce appetite. At the same time, Esther inulin-propionate may cause release of larger amounts of propionate in the gut than alone inulin.

After the study participants drank milkshakes, they did an MRI scan and was shown pictures of different high-calorie and low-calorie products.

So, scientists were able to establish that the use of milk shakes containing ester inulin-propionate decreased activity in areas of the brain that are related to the promotion, at a time when they have demonstrated high-calorie foods.

These areas of the brain – is the caudate and nucleus accumbens, which are the center of the brain. Previously, scientists have already proved their relationship with the craving for certain foods
