Russian scientists will create a landing platform for the exploration of Mars. This will happen under the new Russian-European mission “Ekzomars 2018″.
Along with this, Russia will provide unique scientific instruments for the project, the agency ITAR-TASS referring to Daniel Rodionov, project scientist “Ekzomars “from the Russian side, the Institute of Space Research (IKI).
” Under the agreement, Russia will provide not only the launch vehicle, as well as some scientific instruments, but also create a lander mission “Ekzomars 2018 “- said the expert.

Thus, on the surface of the planet using the landing module developed by NPO. Lavochkin will transport Russian landing platform and ESA rover, whose mass is about 300 kg.
Russian scientists are developing two scientific instruments for orbital module Trace Gas Orbiter, designed to study atmospheric trace gases and the distribution of water ice in the soil of Mars – is spectrometric complex Atmospheric Chemistry Suite and neutron spectrometer Fine Resolution Epithermal Neutron Detector. The first of these is necessary for studying the chemical composition of the atmosphere and climate of Mars. Both devices will soon be made and should be transferred to colleagues from Europe at the end of this year. Orbiter itself is included in the first phase of the project “Ekzomars 2016″.
Two instrument developed IKI, designed for installation on the rover itself – is an infrared spectrometer and neutron spectrometer ISEM ADRON-RM.
Once the rover will be launched from the Russian landing platform, it will begin work on the scientific program, primarily related to the monitoring of various processes on the surface of Mars. Expected life of the planet’s surface – one Martian year (about 1.8 years by earthly standards).
