Superlunie almost coincided with the peak of the meteor shower this year
The inhabitants of the Earth will be able to observe the peak of the passage across the sky of the Perseids – meteor stream consisting of plume of dust particles of the comet Swift-Tuttle – on the night of 12 to 13 of August. “Star rain,” one of the most beautiful astronomical phenomena observed with the naked eye, will be held in the north-eastern part of the sky to the left of the moon. According to specialists of the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INASAN) in the flow can be observed up to 100 meteors per hour. The interval may vary from a few seconds to several minutes. Meteor shower particles fly into the Earth’s atmosphere at a speed of 59 km / h.
The Perseids – one of the oldest watch the meteor shower. It got its name from the constellation Perseus, by which annually appears in the sky during the period from 17 July to 24 August. This year, the Perseids briefly eclipsed superlunie on the night of August 11, when the moon closer to our planet at a distance of 356.8 thousand kilometers.
