Apple forces developers for the iPhone and iPad to move to 64-bit – CNews.ru

From 1 February 2015 all iOS-application developers added to our catalog on Apple App Store, should have the support of 64-bit processor architecture. In addition, new applications must be created with the help of 8 iOS SDK. Apple has warned about the upcoming innovation on its official website for developers.

The new requirements will need to meet not only new programs, but any updates to the existing catalog of applications, including those that contain only bug fixes.

As explained at Apple, developers will need to create a single binary file application with support for 32 and 64 bit. Now they can choose whether they wish to release only the 32-bit version of the application or a universal app with support for both architectures. Thus, from February 1 issue of universal application would be forced.

Apple has not explained that after February 1 will be with requests for applications or updates without 64-bit support. Already in the program directory without the support of 64-bit Apple is not going to remove, even after February 1.

In the case of architecture, ARM, which are based processors, including the iPhone and iPad, the transition from 32 to 64 bits, not only allows you to directly address more RAM (4 GB or more), but also provides support a new set of commands ARMv8. This improves performance regardless of increased RAM. On the processor Apple A7 64-bit applications run up to 30% faster than 32-bit, and on the A8 – up to 40%, according to Ars Technica.

Apple forces developers to move to 64-bit architecture

Support for 64-bit processors Apple has introduced, starting with iPhone 5s. In addition to the iPhone 5s, processors with 64-bit installed in iPad Air, iPad mini iPad mini 2 and 3 – These devices are equipped with a chip Apple A7. Newer iPhone 6 and 6 Plus – processor A8, and iPad Air 2 – A8X.

Some developers have already transferred some of their applications on 64-bit architecture. From a list of about three dozen applications and reduced Ars Technica, 64-bit support 11 programs, including Google Chrome, Dropbox, Mailbox, and others.

Adding in Annex 64-bit support – a simple process that can take no longer than a few days for the most complex projects, reports 9to5 Mac.

Recall that Apple is not the first time forces developers to move to more modern technologies and products. On February 1, 2014, the company ordered them to use the latest version of Xcode 5 and optimize applications for iOS 7.
