A team led by Gennady Valyavina of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the study found that white dwarfs cool down abnormally long.
Even after aging these stars retain a temperature of about 6000 degrees Kelvin. Due to this, in the “vicinity” of such stars can exist comfortably planet with various forms of life. At the same time, extremely cool slowly dwarfs create conditions that are better in terms of astroclimatic parameters than in the “zone of life” of the Sun.
Scientists attribute this to the presence of this kind of extreme dwarf-scale relic magnetic fields enormous tension .
