Scientists have found a gene responsible for the development of stroke – BBC

The Swedish scientists have discovered a gene responsible for the occurrence of stroke. The gene is called FOXF2. The study was published in The Lancet.

In the course of the researchers analyzed the DNA of 84 961 people, 4348 of whom were victims of stroke. The age of these individuals ranged from 45.8 to 76.4 years. Data collection was conducted from 1948 to 2013. “We analyzed a total of millions of markers and found the differences between all the people who have suffered from a stroke, by all those who are victims of this disease did not,” – says one of the authors of the study

Researchers have found seven genes. associated with different types of stroke (ischemic, cardioembolic, lacunar etc.) and one gene – FOXF2, – which, according to the authors, is responsible for the increased risk of all types of stroke. In addition, it is known that the same gene is responsible for the appearance of small vessel disease – coronary heart disease with angina
