Poll: Half of Russians support the introduction of censorship on the Internet – BBC

Almost half of Russians in favor of censorship on the Internet. It is reported by TASS .

These results were obtained in the course of joint research-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) and the Center for the Study of global communications Annenbergskoy at the University of Pennsylvania School of Communications (United States).

For example, 58% of respondents were in favor of the admissibility of a complete shutdown of the Internet in the country in the case of national threat or mass protests. In addition, 73% of Russians do not consider it necessary to publish negative information about the network of civil servants.

The survey data show that regular users of the Internet are 42% of Russians. At the same time 53% said the positive impact of the web on human life, and the third sees only disadvantages.

«A significant number (42%) of Russians believe that foreign countries use the Internet against Russia and its interests”, – stated in the report.

At the same confidence that the Internet is not in need of regulation, expressed only 11%.
