Google has postponed plans to test the concept of modular smartphone, codenamed Project Ara. This was reported by the developers in the official “Twitter” project.
It was originally planned that the Project Ara will test this year in Puerto Rico, but now the first test will take place no earlier than 2016. This test will find a new place in the United States.
The development team explained that the delay was due to the fact that the concept was first presented to the public back in 2013, since then has undergone many changes.
In May, the developer conference Google first demonstrated the technology, which is used to create a modular smartphone. The public responded positively to the project.
In order to disassemble the smartphone into its constituent parts, not require any special skills. Thus, owners of smart phones will be able to replace any faulty part, whether it crashed screen or an old battery.
In addition, people will be able to gather personalized versions of phones based on their specific needs.
In Puerto Rico, Google planned to introduce 20 to 30 different modules “smartphone-designer”.
