Scientists: The stars of the Milky Way have changed their position – BFM.Ru

About 30% of the stars from the outbreak substantially changed its position and now are not in the places where they were formed

Astronomers from the State University of New Mexico created a map of the Milky Ways of showing that about 30% of the stars from the outbreak substantially changed its position and now are not in the places where they were formed. A study published in The Astrophysical Journal.

The researchers used data from the spectroscope APOGEE during a four-year observation of 100 thousand. Stars. The equipment is located in the Apache Point Observatory in New Mexico.

The researchers measured the amount of certain chemical elements such as carbon, silicon and iron, in the various stars. These measurements have allowed astronomers to determine that many stars are now not in the place of the Milky Way, where they were formed.

According to the study, “migrated” around 30% of the investigated stars, and some of them continue their movement, moving away from the galactic center, or approaching it.
