In Thailand, we invented the vest from silkworm cocoons and rubber – Lenta.ru

Two residents of Thailand announced the creation of body armor from silkworm cocoons and natural rubber. It is reported by local newspaper Bangkok post, and the details are given in the Nation.

On inventions told Orapin Thongnongnoy (Orapin Thongnonggoy) – Head of the enterprise for the production of silk – and associate professor of the Faculty of Engineering University of Khon Kaen (Khon Kaen University) Panomkorn Hoahong (Panomkorn Khoahong). Depending on the modification Protective gear has a mass of 2.4 to 4 kg, its thickness and a half to two centimeters.

According to the inventors, the vest is also able to stop the pistol and rifle bullets from the 22th (5.6 mm) to 38 gauge (9 mm), issued from a distance of three meters. The price of the vest is 2.5 times lower than that of conventional models, and the cost of materials for light models weighing 2.4 kilograms valued at approximately $ 100.

The invention is patented in Thailand, soon the authors are going to submit it for testing to the Ministry of Defense and the National Police.
