3D-printer will construct a metal bridge in the center of Amsterdam. MX3D company has developed technology of three-dimensional printing of metal objects, which now allows you to create complex branched structures. The project’s website says that the technology is a cost-effective and may eventually become the successor of modern methods of production of steel structures and components.

Now MX3D plan to build a meaningful and functional object on one of the famous canals in the capital of the Netherlands, said in a video the company.

«At first, the printer is receiving only a little crooked” worms “of metal, and that it was difficult to discern. But we saw in them a universe of possibilities. Of course, problems enough: welding machine exploded, zaplavlyalsya tip printer, the robot lost orientation in space and breaks built. But in the end we started to get a long, straight elements, complex spiral and oval tube. This is how to draw the metal in the air. After many experiments, we were able to speed up the process and learn how to print complex, branched structure. And now we are ready for our first project, which will, in practice, to check all sides of this promising technology of printing. We build more functional object – a bridge in Amsterdam ».

The exact location of the new bridge will be announced later this year, and the work is scheduled to begin in 2017. According to drafts, the construction will begin with fixing the edge of the channel of the initial fragments of two rails of 3D-printers that robots will finish building toward the other side, simultaneously creating and the bridge itself. The spread of 3D-printing continues to gain momentum, Now technology is being used in the aerospace industry, electronics industry, medicine and cosmetics. Internet giant Amazon has opened the store 3D-print on demand, and prices for basic 3D-printers continue to decline. According to the consulting firm Lux Research, in 10 years the world’s 3D-printing industry will reach $ 12 billion.
