During the excavations in the ancient Phanagoria in the Temryuk district of the Krasnodar Territory archaeological expedition discovered an ancient and present-day Russia ancient temple. The exact age of the buildings at the moment is not yet defined.

The find was made in the Temryuk district of the Krasnodar Territory, in the ancient city Phanagoria that archaeologists studying for quite a long time.
According to reports the fund previously, in 2013, at the excavation site “Upper Town,” where It was the acropolis, a temple was found, dated V century BC. Until recently, historians have considered it the oldest building ancient religious buildings in modern Russian, however, it became clear that it is not. When the temple was built, not yet determined, but its location suggests it is more ancient than the one that was opened in 2013. The construction consists of a small pronaos – a small room at the entrance to the main part of the building, and in fact the SPLA, the central temple premises. The total area of the building is 14, five square meters. The temple was built without a foundation of mud brick, like most ancient Phanagoria buildings.
Phanagoria was founded in the VI century BC by settlers from Greece.
This year’s expedition, which is carried out Fund Oleg Deripaska “the Free case” and the Institute of Archaeology Academy of Sciences, attended by 250 researchers and student volunteers from different cities. The season of excavations started in the late spring and ends in late August. Last year, the excavation area was 5,500 square meters.
